We are currently recruiting for a Youth Program Education Assistant I to function as Teacher/Counselor Assistant at Wright School. This position works directly with children, aged 6-13, implementing a therapeutic behavior management system which provides consistent, safe and therapeutic management. Children may display aggressive, explosive, and externalized behavior. Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Monitor and document safety and security for each child every 15 minutes through direct visual observation during overnight hours.
  • Medication administration and self-care assistance is required.
  • Utilize computerized data management systems, manage other treatment documentation, assist teachers/counselors in preparing materials for educational and/or treatment activities that will be implemented in the day or evening programs.
  • Training includes med administration, child development and psychopathology, complex behavioral programming, role modeling, counseling at the point of performance, decision making, crisis intervention, emergency response, language/communication modeling, activities of daily living, maintaining a home-like environment and generalization of skills taught in education and treatment settings.

This is a part-time position (34 hours per week) and eligible for the pro-rated State benefits package. The normal work hours are Monday-Friday, 11:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.; however, flexibility is required to meet facility needs. Management prefers:

  • Experience teaching, counseling or behavioral management, preferably with children and youth with emotional, behavioral or developmental disorders.
  • Experience in re-education program.
